3/28/2024 - Press Release : NJMLA CALLS UPON GOV. MURPHY TO DEPLOY HUMANITARIAN AID TO GAZA

03/28/2024

SOMERSET - The New Jersey Muslim Lawyers Association (NJMLA) today thanked Governor Murphy for his support of an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza. Over the last six months, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been wounded and murdered, and over a million face starvation today caused by Israel’s restriction of humanitarian aid entering Gaza.

Building on our Jersey values of giving a helping hand, we call upon Governor Murphy to direct the Department of Human Services to provide desperately needed humanitarian assistance in Gaza. The situation is extremely dire as no aid has reached northern Gaza for weeks, an estimated 1.1 million people face famine, including the loved ones of New Jerseyans, and at least 30 people have died from malnutrition and dehydration.

Recently, California Governor Newsom deployed 104 pallets of medical supplies to Gaza, including a 50-bed field hospital, support equipment, wound and IV kits, defibrillators, wheelchairs, personal protective equipment, and other emergency-response items.

This aid is now needed more than ever as Congress has stripped hundreds of millions of dollars from UNRWA, the U.N. agency that distributes most aid to Palestinians. New Jersey previously provided aid to Haiti in its Earthquake Response and Rescue mission and should continue that noble tradition of helping those in need.
